About the Role

The Assistant Director will work with Executive Director on the following strategic goals and direction:

• Maintaining a unified kitchen and dining room

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
• Monitor and ensure compliance with St. Mary’s County Health Department
• Assist with grant writing, reporting and administration as needed
• Enter and report monthly program statistics
• Ensure that an adequate inventory of all supplies and food items is maintained
• Supervise volunteers; and complete appropriate volunteer and compensatory workers’ records
• Create, volunteer groups and community service work schedules
• Participate in public relations and fundraising events/projects as requested
• Ensure that food preparation, service, delivery, storage and sanitation are performed within program
guidelines
• Participate in staff/management meetings, board meetings, trainings, workshops, etc. as requested

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Assistant Director works with the Executive Director in
overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Soup Kitchen Program including menu and preparation for
meal service; food distribution; volunteer coordination; ordering of supplies; equipment and sanitation;
event support; and preparation of periodic reports required by different agencies.

Requirements

Position Category: Salaried Professional

Reports To: Executive Director

Salary Range: $35,000-$38,000


MINIMUM/REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree or related experience working with underserved population

• Experience with leading or supervising volunteers

• Health food handling certified or the ability to become certified within 90 days


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships, partnerships, and collaborations with diverse

communities and stakeholders

• Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills

• Demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative

• Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make complex and

collaborative decisions

• Experience in program, operations, and volunteer management in nonprofit, government, or other

community setting

• Experience with grant writing and fundraising

• Competency with basic computer skills and programs and demonstrated willingness to learn new

technological tools

• Ability to work in a team atmosphere, be flexible, exhibit professional demeanor and positive attitude


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear,

handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Lifts and moves items up to 40 pounds.

Work Schedule: Normal hours can vary between 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 on Monday through Friday, with

occasional weekends and evenings.
